MAKE MEMORIES
The child as an active member of the society
Fournos is a Multivalent Communication Network based in Athens – it has a theatre and a research centre. It has created the first Annual International Digital Arts Festival in Athens, Greece Mediaterra (1998 – 2006). Some of the most iconic people of the contemporary Greek theatre have passed from its stage. It has hosted events, parties, and talks that question what is art and how it communicates with the society. It used to be an old Bakery that belonged in the same family since 1930s hence the name Fournos, which means exactly that.
Since the first days of its opening back in 1993, Fournos pays attention to the child, as a spectator and an active member of the society. Its main belief is that art belongs to everyone, and it should be an essential part of the lives of our youngest audience.
Fournos has created children shows for the Greek National TV (1986 – 1998), children plays (1996 – present) and family/children events in collaboration with counties and organisations throughout Greece. In 2006 it became one of the first theatres in Athens, offering shows for toddlers (+2). “Apples, Cinnamon & Sugar” is the first digital game that it produces.
Fournos has travelled around Greece and abroad to present its children shows – with the thought that art needs to be accessible to everyone. With the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Fournos has offered free shows and activities in underdeveloped areas in Attica.
